If you just want to unwind and enjoy your day off in the beautiful weather, lake Hintersteiner is the perfect place to do so. Hidden in the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve above the small village of Scheffau, the lake lies at an altitude of 883 metres with 56 hectares of water surface and a depth of 36 metres.
Lake Hintersteiner has lived up to its name “a serene jewel of nature” since the end of the last ice age when it was formed. The underground springs that fill the lake with crystal-clear water play a part in this.
Sunbathe on the public beach area, cool off in the purest mountain water, or unwind, floating on an air mattress.
Alternatively, take a walk around the lake, either on foot or by bike. The walk takes about an hour, as you will have to over 5 kilometres.
No matter what you decide to do there, lake Hintersteiner is an absolute MUST VISIT! 🙂
